This hack, if done with all new parts, will run you about $20 but is a fun project that is pretty inexpensive. What is odd is that the F-402, a less expensive pen, has a brass mechanism. The Ohto's tip is a tiny, tiny bit slimmer than the typical Parker G2 refill, so it will slide smoothly even with the collar, but it will also have ZERO slop. If you DON'T remove the little white plastic collar inside the tip (the part you can screw off to insert the refill), the Ohto refill will have a PERFECT fit. This is where the hack comes in... Zebra F-402 Ballpoint (usually in a twin pack). Leave the collar in the tip of the pen. To do so, I actually just take the Fisher refill and push it into the tip in the opposite direction. Remove the push button mechanism from the Zebra F-402, which includes only the push button and its surrounding metal threaded tube. Some people prefer to shave it down or modify it, but I've found removing it to work fine. I may take off a little more, Edit: just took off a little more metal and now if feels like a solid click when I hit the plunger, AH they don't have any on Amazon in the UK :(. The older F-701 with black plastic at the clicker (which should still be on a lot of store shelves) does require it removed for many refill swaps you may want. I had to do this to allow the Fisher PR4F refill to fit through. It's arguably the best gel refill out there. Well, the only downer to the F-701 (besides the Zebra ballpoint refill) is that the click mechanism is made of plastic.
For me, the case on the PG-105NP is a bit too wide it causes an issue with retracting. No idea why Zebra keeps skimping in the refill. And that's for a single refill. The Achilles Heel of this pen has always been its shitty ballpoint refill. If you only have regular needle-nose pliers, just wrap some silicon around the metal for protective grip. It will at least loosen the plastic piece which can then be tapped out of the metal tip piece. It won't rattle, but it will trigger your OCD. You can freeze the F-402 for several minutes in the freezer to make the internal plastic retract for easier unscrewing. I left the fire method to the less nervous pen hackers, because fire plus my wooden desk plus melting plastic just seemed terrifying. Not nearly as much resistance in/out. That being said, I kind of prefer it this way; I'm not a fan of super heavy pens and the aluminum they're using seems decent enough. Like the tube is just a bit too thick. I'm sorry to hear that. What many people have found out is that you are able to swap in a Fisher Space Pen refill to the F-701 pretty easily, but there is another mod to swap out some of the hardware of the Zebra F-402.
