The only problem is finding the right sized monitor, while 27/28 inches are cheap they have quite a high pixel density from what we expect from that size … The refresh rate is limited to 60Hz; however, it shouldn't be an issue for most people, as 4k gaming is still incredibly demanding on the graphics card.
It's a versatile option that's primarily designed for office use but with enough gaming performance to satisfy most gamers. If Windows scaling worked really well, it would fix the desktop application issue.
I’ve got two 27 in 4K displays at 100% scaling in windows and I love it. While I enjoy my 24" I would say anything above 30" for monitor use is overkill and will require you turning your neck probably. So with 4K panels dropping prices dramatically in the last year it's now more affordable to join the UHD bandwagon for gaming.

I didn't want to go to 28, considering that they all have a 16:9 AR. Overall, the 32UD99-W has many more features and performs better in general, but if you're shopping on a tight budget, the 32UD59-B is a good alternative. Depends on vision, and viewing distance(don't guess, sit at your regular viewing distance and measure).

Most monitors are good enough to please most people, and the things we fault monitors on are often not noticeable unless you really look for them. They're just doing it wrong... why pay for 4K and sit so far back? Our recommendations are based on what we think are the best 4k monitors currently available. With proper scaling (desktop, text, huds,...) it would be 27" for me.
However, if cost is a concern, the 27UD58-B is a very decent alternative.
I want better text rendering, not more space. I myself can't seem to find a middle ground. The ppi of 4k at 27 inches is far beyond the angular resolution where you can see individual pixels. This is a good option for those who like the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio but still want enough screen real estate to have multiple windows opened at the same time. I think at 27 inches 4k is a bit overkill. It's definitely a noticeably higher dpi, but not too high that you are constantly struggling to see the small details. Great thread. I've never understood the fascination with "pixel-density" when comparing screens of the same resolution. If you find the LG 32UD99-W a bit too expensive, there's a cheaper option, the LG 32UD59-B.
Have been using a 30" 2560x1600 for a few years now. Since it doesn't have a backlight, there's no blooming around bright objects, which is an issue that's common to LED TVs. It has an IPS panel with wide viewing angles, making it easy to share work or content. I also have my retina MacBook Pro running native display resolution.
However, it uses a VA panel, which has a much higher contrast ratio to produce deeper blacks, but its viewing angles are significantly worse. Its wide viewing angles make it suitable for large rooms with wide seating areas, great for movie nights with the whole family. No cherry-picked units sent by brands. Perfect 200% scaling for text clarity. Unfortunately, there are some compromises. Press J to jump to the feed. Although it's technically a TV, it's advertised as a monitor, and it has nearly all the features to deliver an amazing HDR experience. My vision's good, but I think 27-28" would have been pushing it. I have the Phillips 40" and its incredible for PC gaming. I feel you will get limited benefit compared to 1440p at the same size. It handles gradients well, which minimizes banding, and it can display a wide color gamut, with nearly full coverage of the commonly-used DCI P3 color space. Its 4k resolution keeps text looking sharp and easy to read, and its excellent low input lag provides a responsive desktop experience.
Stick with the 28". However, its reflection handling is sub-par, so it's best to avoid direct sources of light shining on the screen.

There aren't many extra features, only a black stabilizer feature that makes objects more visible in dark scenes and a super-resolution feature to upscale lower resolution content. You need to sit back 76" or more for 720p and 1080p to appear the same.
That said, there are features built-in to mitigate the risks, such as pixel shifting. The "Retina" distance, is where the pixels disappear for 20:20 vision.

I haven’t seen a screen this small that is True-4k, although such probably exists. It doesn't look as sleek as the LG 27UK650-W with its thick bezels and glossy plastic stand, but you're still getting a 4k resolution and 27 inch screen at a more affordable price. It can interpolate content up to 120 frames per second to make motion look smoother, but the 'soap opera effect' might not be to everyone's liking. At that point you're simply comparing size once again. It has a decent color accuracy right out of the box, with full coverage of the sRGB color space, and it supports HDR. Because it includes a VA panel, it doesn't have the same wide viewing angles as the LG 32UD99-W's IPS panel, but it has a much better contrast ratio and better black uniformity.
From my experience I'd say go with a 27" or higher monitor, unless you plan on a multiple display setup (such as 2 X 24" monitors).
